October Support Group Meeting 2016

October Support Group Meeting

Saturday, October 1st @ 1pm

Hello Friends!

Our next hypersomnia support group meeting will take place on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm, at Emory Sleep Center, located at 12 Executive Park, NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30329. Our meetings will always be held in Building 12, on the 4th floor.  We hope you can join us!

Please RSVP to email us and let us know you are coming.  Having a rough idea of numbers is helpful.  Partners/spouses/friends/family members are, of course, always welcome to attend.  Also, people deciding at the last minute to attend who have not emailed an RSVP are always welcome.

If you can’t make it to this hypersomnia support group meeting, our meetings are always held on the first Saturday of the month at the same time and location.  Our November meeting will take place on November 5, 2016.

We look forward to seeing you!

Stone Mountain Hypersomnia Awake Walk 2016

Stone Mountain Hypersomnia Awake Walk 2016

Because a Sleep Walk on the Mountain might be dangerous!

Several of us at the recent support group meeting decided to meet and hang out at the base of Stone Mountain.   And we decided that everyone should be invited!  Our plan is to enjoy a picnic at the base of the Walk-Up Trail.  Anyone who wants to hike the 1 mile walk-up trail to the top of the mountain will do so and take a group photo at the top.  Anyone who does not want to climb the mountain may wait at the picnic area at the bottom.  The hiking group will then rejoin the picnic at the bottom.

What to Bring: your own food, drink, sunscreen and chair.  Bring a friend if you want. Bring $15.00/car to park.  Bring appropriate shoes if you want to climb the mountain with some of us.

We aren’t guaranteeing anything other than that we want to meet. We are guaranteeing that we will have a good time!

Where to Meet:  Park at the Confederate Hall Parking Lot (from the main entrance, take a right and the parking lot will be on your left) and we will meet at the picnic table at the base of the Walk-Up Trail.

We look forward to seeing you there!

While on top, 1,686 feet above sea level, enjoy amazing views of downtown Atlanta, the North Georgia mountains and the surrounding area. On a haze-free day, you can see 60 miles from the mountain.

Please Note:

  • Emergency call boxes are located along the trail and in the parking lot.
  • Pets are not allowed on the Walk-Up Trail.
  • This trail is not recommended for people with limiting physical conditions and is not wheelchair accessible.
  • Appropriate footwear should be worn.
  • The mountain is very slippery when wet.
  • If you walk to the top of the mountain and ride down on the Summit Skyride, you will need to walk the 1.1 miles back to the Confederate Hall parking lot.
  • If you ride to the top of the mountain on the Summit Skyride and walk down the trail to Confederate Hall, you will need to walk the 1.1 miles back to the Summit Skyride Area.

“This is Hypersomnia” Campaign

Welcome to day 5 of Idiopathic Hypersomnia Awareness Week!  #IHAW2016  Christine is back with us again today.  You may recall her videos describing her Hypersomnia crash.

In today’s first video, Christine is thankful for Flumazenil but it is certainly not a cure for Hypersomnia.  In today’s second video, Christine has a special message for the hypersomnia community.  She wants you to know that Hypersomnia does not define you.  We know you will find her uplifting and hopeful message to the community a great way to bring the video diaries of people with hypersomnia to a close.  Tomorrow will start our supporter video series.

Christine Describes her Life with Hypersomnia

Hypersomnia Does Not Define You

Thank you Christine!

We want to thank Christine for bravely sharing her experience with the world for idiopathic hypersomnia awareness week 2016, in the hopes that sharing her journey will help someone else out there who is desperately searching for answers and is feeling totally alone. We are so proud of you Christine!  Has Christine’s video inspired you to share a video diary?  Please private message them to Jennifer Beard on Facebook.
